January 22, 1987: Mendiola Massacre.

On January 22, 1987 eleven months into the Cory Aquino Philippine presidency, thousands of frustrated farmers marched to Malacañang demanding land reform and the distribution of land at no cost to beneficiaries. In a violent dispersal, 13 protesters were killed in what has gone down in history as the “Mendiola Massacre.”
