The Makati Medical Center (MMC), located at Legaspi Village in Makati City, is a tertiary hospital in the Philippines with more than 600 beds. It started operations on May 31, 1969 and is currently one of the hospitals owned and operated by Medical Doctors Inc., a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation.The 609-bed tertiary hospital has a building area of 50,000 square meters. As of January 2013, the hospital had 811 staff physicians.

Morbid Trivia:
As a testament to the quality of healthcare service and the stature of MMC as one of the premier hospitals in the country and the world, prominent personalities like former Presidents Diosdado Macapagal and Cory Aquino entrusted their health to MMC. Unfortunately both died at MMC also after long bouts of illnesses. Macapagal died of heart failure, pneumonia and renal complications on April 21, 1997. The 11th President of the Philippines, Corazon Cojuangco-Aquino, died on August 1, 2009 after having suffered from colon cancer for over a year. Her official cause of death was cardiopulmonary arrest. Aquino was first diagnosed to have cancer in March 2008, and was hospitalized from June 2009 until her death.
